Church History

220px-ChristChurchRedWingMNWhen you come to Christ Church you will experience that special blend of the very old with a more contemporary open acceptance of all people. The "Guests Expected" statement on the Web site and on many church signs is intended to convey to all people the way in which the grace of God is expressed in this church. You'll immediately sense something of the holiness of God, though, when you enter the sanctuary. This beautiful church was built in 1871, and it harks back to the feeling of an old English country church. You have the sense when walking in that you've walking in the footsteps of many who come in faith or come with their questions before you.

Christ Church was established in Red Wing in 1858, and has been
continuously serving its comm220px-ChristEpiscopalChurchRedWing before steepleunicants and the community ever since. The present church building was finished in 1871; the Foot Memorial Chapel (on the West side) was added in 1903, and the steeple completed in 1912. Throughout the years continual improvements have been added as the parish fulfills its obligations to keep this as house of prayer for all people. A few years ago, with the addition of an elevator, it became possible for a person in a wheelchair to take part in any and all church activities.

The church is located in historic downtown Red Wing, two blocks from the mighty Mississippi River, situated in the block surrounded by East and West Avenues and Third and Fourth Streets. The parish office entrance is on the West Avenue side of the building. For a complete overview of our programs, committees, and guilds please continue browsing our Website. If you have any questions please email the church.
